Winter Maintenance Tips

Feb 21 2020
At this point in the winter season, we can imagine your plows have had a lot of general wear. Have you checked your plow components recently to see what condition they are in? External factors such as amount of time a plow is used, the condition and type of ground surface, and the material grade of the cutting edge can all affect the lifetime of the wear parts.

Tips for Routine Maintenance Checks:
  • Frequently inspect to see that cutting edges are aligned properly to avoid uneven wear and poor scraping performance.

  • To protect the structural integrity of your plow, make sure the plow frame isn't exposed and there is no rubbing on the moldboard.

  • Check plow shoes and replace when worn at or below 1/4-inch thick.

  • Don't forget to inspect bolts for any that may be missing, loose or corroded. After the first 10 hours of operation, all nuts should be checked with a torque wrench to maintain proper specification.
